As you keep working to share some videos, you will also need to work to make a business strategy, it’s a business plan with a video tool to reach more people to become your client.

1. Have a clear idea about what is your business.

It takes time to get a clear idea about what is your business. You sell your art, teaching classes, online courses, writing books, and there must be more ideas to make money from your art.

One important thing for every art business is to know more about your clients. Take time to know more about them, the more you know who is it and what does he or she wants from you, it will be easier for you to sell your art or grow a strong art business for yourself.

  • Who is your target client
  • What your target client is interested to find in your business
  • How your product will help your target client to solve a particular problem
  • Why your target client should trust you
  • Why your target client should buy from you

Take your time to work on the message you’re sending or sharing to your target client with your YouTube channel

2. Make an editorial calendar for your YouTube videos.

Nothing better than to spend some time finding the best ideas for your future videos to share on your channel.

Take your time to make a brainstorm ideas, make a list of everything that comes into your mind, you must think on what videos your target client is looking to find about your product.

Two ways that will help you find the best ideas for the future videos to share on your channel are:

  • Listen the questions your target client is making about your product or your business,
  • Get inspired by your competence.

Can you make a list of 100 ideas to make videos on your YouTube channel?

This will be a good task to add on your To Do list today!

As you have a 100 ideas to make videos about your art and about your business, you won’t get stuck and you can work better to get organized to plan a day to make two or three videos in advance.

3. Brand your channel

As you have learned how to brand your art business and yourself as an artist, a YouTube channel is just one more tool to help your business to grow.

It has to be one more piece of your brand, take your time to learn how to write your own channel description, it will help your target client to find you.

4. The money is in the list!

As you have been working to build up your own website as your own business tool to help you to grow your business and get more sales from it, you might have started your own business list.

You have already signed up to one of the best platforms on the internet to grow a list for your business.

As you work on to make new videos on your YouTube channel, at the end of each video you can talk about what is the free thing you have for your followers.

Share it on each video and invite your followers to sign up to your list to get it.

5. Create a FREE offer for your target client.

It doesn’t need to be big, but it need to be something your followers will appreciate getting from you as free.

Maybe a free download printable from your art, so they can print it out and put it on a frame to hang it in their homes.

Maybe a check list to work on your technique, or short guide to start working on your technique, people love to have some tips from the artists!

6. Create high quality video content.

And this doesn’t mean you need to spend lots of money to hire an expert to make the videos for you, you can always start with what you already have at home.

Your cell phone, your digital camera, and your own studio or workshop.

But your videos need to be:

  • Interesting – find out what your target client is interested to know and to learn from you as an artist or crafter. One good way to find out it, it’s to be part of one or more Facebook groups, you will find many ideas on the questions and comments people make on those groups.
  • Valuable – Why your target client will spend some time to watch your video? Because you share something that is valuable for them, they will love to hear from you some tips or techniques to do this and that, if your videos share valuable content, your followers will watch them not just one time, they will watch them as many times as they need. Your followers will even share them and they will talk about you and your YouTube channel as a reference where people can learn more about your art and your technique.
  • High quality – Don’t talk about what the rest of the artist talk on your technique, be the one, stand out from the rest, it takes time but it will pay off all the work you put on it.

7. Be Unique.

You and your art are unique, well the same needs to be for your YouTube channel.

All the work you’ll put to make those amazing videos, and the work to create those amazing thumbnails for each one of your videos, will pay you back!

There are tons of artists already using this amazing platform to market their art, the only way you will stand out from the rest, it’s by sharing unique content.

Watch your competence, watch to learn what they are doing and how they present their work and how they share the tutorials to help their followers to create their own art.

Get inspired by them, learn from what they are doing right. Never copy, but we all can learn from others.

One good way to find inspiration to create good videos for your channel, it’s to take a look to your competitors and check on their top performing videos, read the comments from their followers, by doing this, you will get a good idea on what people are following and what do they want to watch on videos about art and crafts.

One thing that will help you to create your unique YouTube channel is to take your time to create eye-catching thumbnails for each one of your videos.

Thumbnails that will catch the attention from your followers from the rest and they will make your followers to click on your videos and not on your competitors. This way you will get more followers each day and your channel will grow fast.

You can also make the thumbnails for your videos on Canva.com

I know they are not good and with topics out of context about what I do as an artists and as a crafter (Quilts)

It took me about 3 years to get used to the idea that a YouTube channel it was a good idea for my online business.

It has been two years since I took back my YouTube channel to work again on it, after these two last years all I can say is that I’m so happy I did it.

Today, I have on my studio, a tripod, two digital cameras, one to make the videos and one to take the photos, a video making software, not expensive and it works great, it has helped me to create better videos that my followers love!

I have signed up to one or two online courses to learn more about how to make a video, nothing to complicated, but it has helped me to reach a certain level of quality.

I got used to hearing my voice on a video and to watch my hands working while I show my followers how to make quilts.

After working last year to make better videos to share them on my YouTube channel the results are starting to come up daily.

My channel is growing up steady, one of my videos is getting tons of views and I need to answers a few comments every day!

I have recently been turned on to Instagram after I started using Pinterest. I am amazed by how big the platform is and how easy it is to use.

I agree with your points on branding, that is a very good idea in the long run and will make you look more professional.

Do you use any specific tools to manage your instagram? Or do you have any tips for using the app? I am only just getting started on the Instagram platform.

I really like your ideas on building a list and making quality videos as well, really insightful!

    Thanks for the post!

    Great post and good info.

The art could be everything, and the base is always the same.

The steps you’ve been showing, I’ve done the same with my channel.

But our art is our dog. Honestly, it wasn’t easy, especially to grow an audience.

But the more we produced, the more people that came and stayed.

Never stop and always believe in it.

Anywayw you give great tips and I think you can help people with it.

      Hi Jafor,

Thanks so much for making the time to read my blog today and leave your questions in a comment.

YouTube is the best Social Media platform to share videos of your work as an artist, as this is the platform most of the people are using today.

You can try another platform to share your videos like VIMEO but it will take longer for you to grow your business as less people use it.

No, the platform will not grow your clients automatically, YouTube is just one more tool you can use to help your business to grow, you will need to create the content to share on this platform (videos)

Once you get interested to get a YouTube channel, you will need to start with the tools for video making that you have at home, like your cell phone or any digital camera you have at home.

As you keep working on it, you can find the video making tools in different places, offline and online, Amazon is a good idea to start with.

YouTube is not a site, it’s a platform and you can start your own channel for free, all you need is to have a gmail account.

The time to grow a good YouTube channel will depend on your work for video making, it can be a few weeks or it can take a few years.

Let me know if you have more questions, I’ll be happy to answer to them.

      Alejandra.

YouTube has been a great equalizer in giving everyone a media platform to promote their brand through video. Art-based projects especially lend themselves to video promotion that can definitely lead to huge success (Justin Bieber comes to mind here).

All of these tips are great, but tips 3 and 7 (Branding and Uniqueness) are critical for success as an artist. Truly groundbreaking artists all have very strong brands and unique takes on art (Andy Warhol, the Rolling Stones, Emeril Lagasse are some examples). Focusing on your uniqueness and artistic niche and staying true to that artistic focus pays dividends in the long run.

I have worked in the arts my entire life and it is both incredibly challenging and incredibly rewarding. Stay focused and remember – iIf you are there everyday, one day, you will be at the right place at the right time.
